Home In Arizona

As I continue with this vast cohesive body of work, I started to look at my siblings and the homes they live in.  Growing up with eight sisters and four brothers, things have always been disorderly.  With Home in Arizona, I have moved beyond my mother’s home and into my sister Ana’s home located in Sierra Vista, Arizona.  Taken over a one-week period, the photographs represent the start of a new project.  What I have captured in these photographs is the activities that happen mainly in the living room.  Taken over spring break, my sister’s house became one very full house.  Since my sister Avelina also lives at this house with her husband and two children, the space was very limited.  In the past, I have not tried to photograph significant others due to respect especially those serving in the military.  I have not, until now, photographed someone in a military uniform for fear that I might somehow disrespect the individual in the uniform.  Most of my sibling’s husbands or siblings themselves do not like to be photographed in uniform.  It is not due to disrespect or anything, but because they honor the uniform and if they are doing something to dishonor it, they don’t want others to see.  This body of work is still a work in progress.
